Soul Good Project

Meet Amanda

Soul Good Project is a holistic wellness brand dedicated to self-love, with a focus on being conscious of what we apply on and put into our bodies. Our products are handmade with love, using natural, non-harmful ingredients to ensure that they’re good for you while striving towards sustainability with the use of recyclable glass packaging.

What drove you to kickstart on your business?

As someone that suffers from skin sensitivity and eczema, I was frustrated and discouraged when I couldn’t find healthy skincare products that were gentle, suitable for my skin, and natural at the same time. From these disheartened feelings, it dawned upon me that I didn’t have to rely on mass-produced commercial products, but rather, could make my own alternatives with the right knowledge and composition of ingredients.

What is the story behind your brand?

I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit in me! Growing up with like-minded parents in a very enterprising household, I’ve inherited those traits from them, enabling me to find tangible solutions to problems which I, along with many others, have had. I left my career in PR and marketing consultancy to get my basics of the trade right and completed a UK-based Diploma in Skin Care Formulation. From then, I began formulating products that were wholesome, natural and handmade with love.

Are there any new / upcoming products or projects we can anticipate?

Yes, we’ll be releasing our spring/summer 2021 series with new candle scents quite soon. Keep your eyes peeled!

What are some of the main challenges you face?

Educating the market, because many items are still fairly new to the everyday consumer. For instance, the deodorant balm is rather niche as most people are used to either roll-on or aerosol spray types. It’s hard to convince others to make the switch to a less harmful option when there’s already a norm in the way things are done.

Another challenge has been product expansion to other countries, especially to the US, our biggest market after Singapore and rest of Southeast Asia. Some have reached out to me about making my products available on consignment platforms like Cult Beauty and Target, but because of the nature of my hand-crafted products, I had to pass on these opportunities. However, we have something planned for our business in future so I’m sure we can overcome these challenges.

What are the 3 words you associate your brand with?

Self-love, sustainability, and natural.

What would you say sets you apart from other brands?

Natural doesn’t have to be expensive. We use premium ingredients charged at an affordable price, because we believe being able to give your body the best should be as accessible as it can be. Also, we’re committing to a treating the world better by using sustainable packaging (glass bottles and jars). But at the heart of it, Soul Good Project invites you on a journey of self-love and acceptance by taking care of the body which we have been given, by using the best, all-natural products that we craft.

What motivates you to keep doing what you do?

Though it’s just merely 1 year and few months, I believe that Soul Good Project has helped others through our natural products that have been proven effective for many individuals. I can’t change the entire world, but it’s in the small steps taken that makes a difference in other people’s lives.

What inspires your products?

My baby was having a lot of trouble with sleep and teething and she was inconsolable no matter what method we used. So I turned to essential oils, but I wanted the best and the safest for her as essential oils are known to be potent. That started me on the research, and so I imported 100% certified organic and food-grade oils to blend for her, and it worked!

What other artists / crafters / brands do you wish to collaborate with?

We would love to collaborate with brands or artists who share our vision of building a strong parenting community in Singapore, where we support one another. We are already in talks with some brands who are also run by local Moms!
